FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions

SIPs, which stands for Structural Insulated Panels, are highly effective building systems that can be used in all types of construction projects. SIPs are also known as “sandwich panels” or “stress skin panels”, and consist of a structural foam core that is sandwiched between two structural skins. We typically use oriented strand board (OSB) for the exterior and interior skins and expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam for the insulating core. The manufacturing of SIPs is carried out in controlled factory conditions, and they can be customized to fit almost any building design. SIPs are not only cost-effective, but they also provide an energy-efficient structure that is 2 and a half times stronger than traditional stick-built structures.

Sturdy Homes is a company that was established in 2017 with a primary focus on building DIY Tiny Home Kits with SIPs Framing. We aim to provide innovative and durable DIY Tiny Home Kits that prioritize energy conservation and customer satisfaction. We take great pride in our work and are dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), commonly known as tiny homes, are affordable alternatives to traditional houses or additional living spaces in backyards. They typically range between 100 to 500 square feet.

Our products go through rigorous quality control and are approved by ICC-ES and NOAHCertified.org, which comply with both ACC (American Code Compliant) and ICC (International Code Compliant) regulations. Our Tiny Homes feature high-efficiency LED lighting and insulation with high R-values, which lead to significant energy savings. Additionally, our DIY Frame Shell Kits come with a special adhesive and a hot gun, along with all the necessary hardware for your convenience.

When ordering a larger size Tiny Home, you may need 2×4 or 2×6 studs along with drywall, etc.

DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Kit comes with a frame and factory pre-cut panels for doors and windows. However, it is the buyer’s responsibility to arrange for doors, windows, wall finish, ceiling, flooring, siding/roofing, paint, electrical wiring, plumbing materials, kitchen counter, bathroom parts, furniture, etc. The buyer is also responsible for unloading the DIY kit from the delivery truck, assembling the kit, and installing it on the foundation.

In addition to the above, the buyer is responsible for obtaining permits for the city/country, land clearing, landscaping, foundation, external electrical wiring, plumbing, water & sewage connections, lighting, furniture, and any other requirements.

Please keep in mind that the buyer will be responsible for obtaining local permits from the Building Department of their city, county, or state to proceed with their purchase. The permits required for the process include a Foundation permit, an Electrical permit, a Plumbing permit, and a Water/Sewage permit. It’s important to note that the permitting process may take a few months to complete.

To make things easier for the buyer, Sturdy Homes will provide an “Architectural Plan” to help with the Buyer’s permit process. However, the “Site Plan” will need to be handled by the buyers themselves. If the buyer needs Permitting Services, they can contact us, and we can assist them by connecting them with our third-party associates who can provide their services and fees.
